Choir School and Brandywine School District Partner on 21st Century Community Learning Center Application

The Choir School of Delaware is proud to announce that we are partnering with the Brandywine School District on an application for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Cohort 21. If approved, the Choir School and the Brandywine School District will receive federal funding to create a 21st Century Community Learning Center in Wilmington for BSD students.

21st Century Community Learning Centers provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local academic standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

To learn more about 21st Century Community Learning Centers, please visit the Department of Education website. The Choir School’s completed subgrant application will be publicly available here once submitted. The Department of Education is expected to release application decisions in July 2023.

We are glad to partner with the Brandywine School District on this application with the goal of connecting more Wilmington students to out-of-school-time music and mentoring. Together, we will help students succeed in school and beyond.

Leadership Announcement – April 2023

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Choir School of Delaware,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that the Choir School has contracted Gray Breakthroughs, LLC to provide organizational and strategic support during its leadership transition. Founder and Principal Carrie Gray will support the organization’s future visioning and search for a permanent leader, while consultant Tim McLaughlin will provide day-to-day management as Interim Executive Director.

Gray Breakthroughs is a professional consulting practice founded by Carrie Gray, who brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in the nonprofit, higher education, and home care sectors. Tim McLaughlin’s background includes three decades of executive leadership roles in the corporate, nonprofit, and public sectors. In addition, the extended team of consultants brings experience in nonprofit management, economic development, creative placemaking, fundraising, and community engagement.

Tim will lead the dedicated staff including Brittney Stanton, Deputy Director, who will continue to oversee the Choir School’s artistic programming. The future of the organization is secure with this exceptional team and its rich diversity of talent and experience.

The Choir School remains steadfast in its mission of service to our young choristers and our community. With the after-school program at capacity, a thriving musical theater summer camp now in its third year, and a new satellite program at neighboring Harlan Elementary School, we are connecting more Wilmington children to life-changing music and mentoring than ever before. We are glad that you are part of this journey. You have shared your time, talent, and resources with the children of the Choir School, and you have applauded them at concerts that seek to build a better world through music. Thank you for your enduring support.

The Choir School has lifted voices and lifted lives in a strong tradition of excellence. Thanks to you, the Choir School family, our future and the futures of our children have never been brighter. We hope you will join us on April 29 at Sun, Moon, and Stars , the next concert in the Jubilee Season, to celebrate 140 years of song and the 140 years yet to come.

Leadership Announcement – December 2022

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Choir School of Delaware,

Please join me in wishing Arreon Harley-Emerson all the very best as he begins a new professional journey. After nearly a decade of service, Arreon is moving on from the Choir School of Delaware to pursue new professional interests. Arreon’s last day is December 9, 2022.

The Board, staff, volunteers, and the children we are privileged to serve, offer a heartfelt thank you to Arreon for his dedicated service to our mission of music and mentoring.

All of us at the Choir School of Delaware remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing our mission of service. With our humble beginnings more than a century ago, the Choir School of Delaware has evolved to become a core service for many of Wilmington’s unrepresented youth. For us, what we do is and will always be about caring for the children who benefit from our services. The Choir School is embarking on a truly historic initiative beginning in 2023 to ensure we are doing all we can for the children we are privileged to serve. While we conduct the search for a new leader for the Choir School, Brittney Stanton, Deputy Director and Assistant Conductor, will ensure our service offerings continue seamlessly. Thank you again for your trust, loyalty, and investment in our mission.

If you have any questions or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Thank you all so very much for your generosity and trust in the Choir School of Delaware mission.

Yours truly,

Tabé Masé (she/her)
